Meanwhile, down in Antarctica..
Antarctica has just set a new cold record for the month of March.
On Wednesday, Vostok Station fell to -76.4C (-105.5F), making for the continent's lowest March temperature ever recorded (observations dating back to 1958).
Clear skies and low humidity allowed for intense radiational cooling.
March is usually just the start of the winter descent, with the most extreme cold typically coming in July and August. But not this year.
Antarctica has never been colder in the month of March.
