FTD diary…. Monday Played with some money. Had extravagant lunch of one ounce of poached salmon. Went to basement and used one precious drop of chain oil. Rode to beach. Dipped toe in sea to continue run of 38 days continuous swimming. Watched Withnail and I on YouTube. Went to bed worrying about COVID Tuesday Played with money. Wondered what I’d do on Friday when Upper Volta were having a bank holiday and their market would be shut. Had an anchovy for lunch. Went to base and checked bike oil can for evaporation loss by weighing on scales I found in a market in an Italian town just over the border and brought back without paying customs duty. Walked to beach as velo had a puncture. Looked at all the dogs remembering Charlie who was the bestest pooch. Dipped other toe into sea for variety. Watched The Big Lenowski. Went to bed worrying about Covid so sang Russian national anthem to calm myself to sleep. Wednesday Traded more as big futures were settling sediments. Treated myself to a fried sardine for lunch, accompanied by some coffee which I’d almost ran out of and was waiting for the world coffee price to stabilise before replenishing. Fixed my puncture and cycled to beach to find phone I’d dropped previous day, without success as I’d only had the Nokia 23 years. Dipped thumb in sea. Watched Withnal and I and went to bed worrying about Covid. Thursday. Did some more trading and then ate smoked mackerel spine for lunch. Cycled to beach, might have to get a new saddle as this Sturmey Archer leather one is through to the springs. Looked at ladies on beach. Dipped elbow (left) in sea. Pushed bike back (another puncture). Watched The Big Lebowski and dressed up in my Ayatollah pyjamas to aid sleep. Friday Markets shut, so only had half an olive. Took train to nearest town over the border, shared a margherita pizza. Decided as couldn’t go to usual doggy beach that breaking my unbroken swimming record didn’t count. Went to bed with Covid mask on as in foreign country and I’d seen a bat 🦇
