The boomers are dying out and leaving their fortunes to the shyte generation who will immediately cease
work and most likely piss it into the wind.
Inheritance is driving a wave of early retirement More people are being left money by loved ones and reducing their housing costs
A retirement crisis is brewing in Britain. And its cause is probably not what most people think.
Most of the early retirement debate has focused on long-term sickness, which has pushed hundreds of thousands of people out of the workforce since the pandemic.
But there is another, less discussed force that could reshape the future labour market: inheritance.
The evidence shows that money left to loved ones is becoming both larger and more common, creating a growing group of older workers who can afford to leave the workforce before reaching state pension age.
For millennials born in the 1980s, average inheritances are now projected to be worth around 16pc of lifetime household income, which is almost double the 9pc expected for those born in the 1960s, according to the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS).
Conventional wisdom suggests this trend will primarily widen the gap between the haves and have-nots when it comes to home ownership.
That concern has been repeatedly highlighted by Torsten Bell, the pensions minister.
After all, the “bank of mum and dad” has become an increasingly important source of support for first-time buyers struggling to get on to the housing ladder.
