Did you know.?
Your calf muscles act as a "second heart" by contracting to squeeze deep leg veins and push blood back up toward your chest against gravity.
How the Calf Pump Works
Contraction: When you walk, run, or lift your heels, your calf muscles (gastrocnemius and soleus) tighten and compress the deep veins inside your lower legs.
One-Way Valves: This squeezing action forces deoxygenated blood upward, while internal one-way valves snap shut to prevent the blood from flowing backward down into your feet.
Circulation Support: Because veins lack the strong muscular walls of arteries, they rely heavily on this mechanical action to ease the workload on your actual heart
