on a positive note I may have repaired my pioneer CT 950 cassette deck, after it's been sat in the cupboard

since 2020 (I checked the picture dates yesterday)
I was given it from someone who worked at a dump at the time. Just turned up with it, and the operating manual, and the service manuals!!
Turned it on, nothing. Changed power switch from pioneer parts bin, power arrives.
Put tape in nothing. Order set of belts and tape spool rubber gear drive. Voila it plays! Then stops after random amount of time. Initially maybe 15 minutes, then less (en fin I forget after 6 years!) Take apart again, decide it's one of the dual motors, eventually put in cupboard and begin to knock down wall etc.
Get it out yesterday as been going through assorted tape decks. Turns on, mechanism actuates ok, but still problem with take up spool (right spool that turns to take up tape after passed over capstan pin and capstan roller. You end up with the old ton of tape wrapped around the capstan etc scenario.
Take it to pieces again, decide to wrap white plumbing tape (used to water tight seal threads) around the plastic spool so the replaced after market tyre bought in 2020 will sit a little higher to hopefully force a stronger contact between the spindle that runs off the belt connected to the motor and the right take up spool.
This doesn't make any real difference, ... then I spot a small 1cm spring., and said spring is 'tired'. I find replacement that's near enough. Try it and now seems to take up as it should. The extra tension giving the correct force to make the spool wheel turn!!

Which all means that if I sell it it will pay for 3/5ths of one implant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mine doesn't have wood case, just the black metal version, but cosmetically 100%pristine, as if came out Japan yesterday ... probably go for 850ish seeing as i've got the manuals with it.
