Spent the afternoon in the garden, hadn’t bothered to cut the grass as drought. But there were loads of straggly weeds and thistles so time to chop. Sat down with a pint (water!) after and noticed we suddenly had a plague of dragonflies zooming hither and thither. A load of little flies and moths had been hiding in the weeds and we’re now a flight. So somehow the dragonflies knew and before long there were some 30 darting about. They’re so agile I didn’t see one miss. A few evaded the dragonflies and ascended higher where a gulp of swallows had appeared. Was a delighted 10 minutes until all the food was devoured. Then feasted on plums, damsons and blackberries from our trees and hedgerows, washed down with lashings and lashings of ginger beer. Rather pleasant.
