Days before the Conservative Party conference in Manchester, the former prime minister said she was “deeply disappointed” by what she described as a “retrograde step” from the Tory party leader. Mrs Badenoch’s pledge to repeal the legislation, which put targets for cutting emissions into law, would lead to the abandonment of the requirement for car manufacturers to produce a certain amount of electric vehicles, and for increasing the use of heat pumps in homes.
