Polish King Jan III Sobieski saved Vienna , leading the combined Polish-Holy Roman Empire forces to victory against the Ottoman Empire at the Battle of Vienna in 1683, breaking the Ottoman siege and halting their expansion into Europe. His decisive charge with the Winged Hussars is considered a pivotal moment in European history, often called "the savior of Vienna ! Once the Ottomans saw the Polish battle flag on the heights above Vienna they began to scuttle !!
