RE Rupert Lowe and post Telegraph take over by, cough, by, cough, Friends of Israel', self-confessed 'goy

zionist' (dunno his role, I'd guess editor, but I can dig out name) ... this is the last comment (see bottom of comments) that sort of says it all.

Is there anyone left on the Telegraph editorial team that isn't writing hit pieces with bed-wetting student politics level content?
I'm embarrassed to call myself a subscriber at this point.

So that's five articles now in recent days on Lowe. Yet silence from the Telegraph on Lowe's grooming gang report and his plan to name and shame in Parliament those who sacrificed vulnerable children for their own political beliefs and agenda.
A better question should be why have we thrown British citizenship and passports around like confetti to people who hate western values?

The real scandal is that 800 illegals are lined up on the beaches of Northern France ready to make the crossing tomorrow morning thanks to the good weather. And our authorities are literally waiting to greet them! How did this madness happen?!? No, no, no... as Thatcher would have said!!!

The "minority by 2062" report uses census data question "do you identify as white British?". So you self identify.
Everyone in the article and the King would identify as white British.
Rupert wasn't on top of his brief and should have mentioned this at the time to Nick.

Sir Cliff Richard and Dame Joanna Lumley were both born in India. I am beginning to loathe Rupert Lowe. There was a time when he had a point, but now his support gets smaller every day, because he is talking nonsense. Big mistake. Huge.

I see the order has come down from on high.
"Squash the nationalist frog! "
Well, nations do exist.
Like it or not England is a nation and it's people belong to it.
The people you site are, for the most part, half British and half something else. Or would you like them to renounce their identities. Would the Telegraph wish Helen Mirren to denounce her father and pretend to be something she's not? Why should she renounce her Russian heritage? What's wrong with being half Russian?

I don’t agree with this ridiculous DEI culture & I detest woke ideology, but neither do I agree with ethno nationalism.
You’d be hard pressed to find anyone in the UK whose DNA goes back thousands of years as pure British.
I believe in principles of family, community and country. Common sense, law and order, freedom of speech, equality of opportunity, the principles of English common law, the principles of European enlightenment, and goodwill to all men and women who are decent and law abiding and who reject extremism in all its guises.

This is a silly hit piece. Instead of covering the news and having the razor-sharp political analysis I love and respect from the Telegraph this sort of article falls into the BBC London bubble trap. This sort of writing is why aim cancelling my subscription to the times.

It's not Lowe's definition but Matt Goodwin's when he was an academic. Whenever you do a study like this you have to divide people into classifications and there are always going to be a tiny number of cases that blur at the edges.
Disingenous left wing types use these cases to suggest the entire excercise is fraudulent, its one of the core techniques of critical theory. But lets add all these people back into the white british category, white British people would still be a minority but probably by 2064 or 2065. Why the Telegraph is engaging in this sort of obvious distraction is a mystery, presumably its another chapter in their failed attempts to resurrect the blue brand of the uniparty from the dead after the enormous betrayal that was the Boris wave.

I'm 6'1, used to be blond and still blue-eyed, so probably pass the visual test. How does our race-correctness commissar Lowe classify me?

None of that is true, he said that white British people would be a minority by 2063 unless we change direction, he didn't say anything about throwing Charles out of the country or that anyone whose parents weren't born in Britain should be forced to leave.
I have listened to the interview, you clearly haven't. If he stated either of your above assertions, tell me the timestamps... here is the interview.

But you're in agreement with him?
He was asked: “Are you aware that, by the definitions used in that particular report, King Charles is not a white Briton? Do you think he is a white Briton?”
Your parentage is not born in Britain yet you identify as British, but I assume you also agree that if you had a child with someone else born in this country, but the child lived their entire life in their ancestral Spain they would be unlikely to identify as British.
You may say that many people have different interpretations of that, Nick. I mean, we can split hairs.”

The genetics of the entire cluster of islands by any name, were:
1. Neolithic farmers largely the same, all over and still the lion's share of the DNA now.
2. Celtic overlay everywhere whether speaking a Brythonic or Goidelic version, from the bronze age.
3. Anglo-Saxon overlay mostly in England but also southern Scotland before the formation of that nation, and then superficially much later in Wales or Ireland.
4. Scandinavian overlay, smaller but noteworthy in all the four countries, variously Danish Norwegian to the limited extent these are at all different.
5. Barely perceptible Norman and related French in the 11th century.
Culturally often important but statistically and genetically meaningless additions from the 11th century to the 20th.
That's a fair amount of flexibility.Read more

Fair points, there were certainly legions and auxiliaries moved around the Roman Empire, see Batavians at Vindolana.
But as the Romans were a cultural rather than ethnic empire their genetic legacy will be very mixed.

There have always been amusing arguments whenever anyone, usually an old imperialist unionist, would try to claim the Wesleys/Wellesleys including the Duke of Wellington, or Bernard Montgomery, as Irish.
Usually it would be Irish objecting to products of the Ascendancy, or even the medieval Old English/Old Irish [I've always loved that these are synonyms] gentry, being called Irish.

To be fair Lowe cites a report written by someone else and that person decided the test of Britishness, not Lowe. Lowe only refused to fall to Nick Robinson’s “gotcha” question by engaging with it. That’s my reading anyway, I try to be even handed.

If you actually look at the evolution of nationality law through the 20th century, Britain clearly took a balanced view mixing birthplace, parental origin, and ethnicity. That would still be fine. It certainly was not just "oooh, VALUES" like Allister Heath would have it.
In the days of Empire and British Subjecthood, it encompassed the whole Empire [not people in protected states though] but they did not want everyone coming to Britain either. Some were fine, and Palmerston was ready to go to war for Don Pacifico, and that's fine too.
As the Empire collapsed and nationality law reflected that, the terms were properly narrowed. They even excluded a lot of people who were ethnic British of one kind or another but whose dominions became new nations, though also giving them some status. I was not always pleased with how, but they did combine the geographic and the ethnic principles in complex ways.Read more

Birthplace IS a stupid definition, but it shows a well meaning attempt to avoid ethnicity. He should embrace the latter.
That would restore [heh] Churchill and Orwell off the bat. The Day-Lewises too, of course. They were not Gaels. Tolkien too.
Orwell and Tolkien, of course, were born in places that were not foreign at the time, AND were ethnically English diaspora.
This is not really hard.

Sorry- I did mean only to imply most of Hitler's European neighbours by that remark, and per my other comments, not precluding a slightly more relaxed but obvious ethnic component in how Britons identified themselves then.
The Soviet Union was an ideologically multinational state that took great care to identify its component ethnicities including when mixed.
India was a VERY mixed society whose peoples nonetheless are very interested in how and to what degree they are mixed and have arguments about it.
The US then considered itself an Anglo-Germanic led jumble of Europeans with a black minority, and had not decided how to remake itself with all that in mind. Though the war itself moved a long way toward pulling the other Europeans into the same fold in everyone's mind, with the black minority left out for another generation. Or more. One of the things they were doing in the generation prior to that war was keeping in-migration to a bare minimum with radical assimilation of Europeans in mind.
My only point was that ethnic identity was still a major issue for Hitler's opponents of all kinds- a lot in the shaping of his European enemies [the Dutch, Czechs and others saw themselves as their nationalities just fine], and not trivial for others, and that it is not correct to portray that as a war of horrible ethnonationalists against happy clappy post-ethnic, post-national, global internationalists.Read more
