Trump doesn’t mean it…
Donald Trump has suggested he is willing to negotiate the US peace plan presented to Ukraine, saying the controversial proposal is not his final offer.
The US president had given Volodymyr Zelensky until Thursday to accept the 28 point plan, which would see Ukraine surrender key territory and cut the size of its army.
Asked if the plan, which was rejected by European leaders, was his final offer to end the war with Russia, he said: “No, not my final offer.”
“We’d like to get to peace. It should’ve happened a long time ago... We’re trying to get it ended. One way or the other we have to get it ended,” he added.
Asked what would happen should Mr Zelensky not accept the plan by the Thursday deadline, Mr Trump said: “Then he can continue to fight his little heart out.”
Mr Trump’s comments come as a US delegation led by Marco Rubio, the secretary of state, and White House envoy Steve Witkoff, prepare to meet officials from Kyiv, the UK and Europe in Geneva.
US sources told Axios that the deal would be a “collaboration” between the US, Ukraine and Russia and the agreement may change.
