Well... A thorough University of Alaska study disagrees with that. Buildings do not collapse onto their own footprint at free fall speeds because of office fires. If they did, we wouldn't occupy them. That's why all the FDNY guys climbed the stairs of the WTC with their hoses - they'd been there before, got the T shirt, high rise fires are not that rare.
