Higher Propensity to Save: Since 2020, UK households have reined in discretionary spending significantly due to high interest rates and economic uncertainty, keeping the UK household savings ratio high relative to its historical averages.



Preference for Cash over Equities: Data compiled by financial think tanks indicates that UK households hold a disproportionately large amount of liquid wealth in low-return cash savings rather than risk assets. Only about 8% of UK household wealth is held directly in stocks and shares—the lowest in the G7 and roughly four times lower than in the United States.
