Same day he quit as mayor, Manchester United acquired a 25-acre site from Indurent (a portfolio company of US investment firm Blackstone Inc.) to build a new 100,000-seat stadium. This land deal secures the majority of the space needed for the project
This is how investment zones work. Burnham negotiated and designated the land whilst mayor and then private finance benefits from the increase in values.
