Cyclists injure record number of pedestrians Campaigners demand action as serious collisions soar despite little increase in bike miles
The number of pedestrians seriously injured by cyclists hit a record level last year, statistics reveal.
The injury toll from serious collisions with a bike or e-bike in 2025 was up more than two-thirds compared with pre-pandemic levels, despite the number of miles cycled rising by only 1 per cent.
In 2025, 234 pedestrians were seriously injured by cyclists across England, Scotland and Wales, a 71 per cent increase compared with 2016 when 137 such injuries were logged by police..
And the newly published Department for Transport (DfT) statistics have prompted calls from road safety campaigners for Heidi Alexander, the Transport Secretary, to do more to protect pedestrians.
