Dago slurs coons… Mamdani’s wife apologises for using the N-word Rama Duwaji, who is married to New York’s mayor, admits ‘shame’ over slurs in social media posts The wife of Zohran Mamdani, the mayor of New York City, has apologised for using the N-word in a social media post as a teenager. Rama Duwaji said she “felt a lot of shame” for tweeting the slur when she was 15 years old, after The Washington Free Beacon, an American conservative news website, revealed she had used several derogatory words for black and gay people, and glorified Palestinian terrorist groups. The posts appeared on an old X account which was apparently deleted last month, after The Free Beacon published its report. “When a tabloid recently published old tweets I wrote as a teenager, I felt a lot of shame being confronted with language I used that is so harmful to others being 15 doesn’t excuse it,” Ms Duwaji, a visual and ceramic artist, said in an interview with the US arts magazine Hyperallergic. “I’ve read and seen a lot of what others have had to say in response, and I understand the hurt I caused and am truly sorry.” Edited on 16/04/2026 at 17:58:54.
