Princess Zelda was named after the famous American socialite and novelist Zelda Fitzgerald. Series creator Shigeru Miyamoto chose the name because he felt it had an elegant, regal sound and perfectly fit the image of a legendary princess.Etymologically, the given name "Zelda" has German and Yiddish roots.
