In my chartering days , we were coming back from Scotland to Lincolnshire. I am sitting up beside the pilot.
Ice starts to form on the wings. He points it out and tells me , Don’t worry we have deicers. He shows me the button that sends spray over the wings, I press it. No liquid emerges. Sh1t he says , they forgot to fill it. Don’t worry he says, on the leading edge see the black. I nod. That’s rubber , and we can pump it up to crack the ice off. Push that button. I push. Nothing happens. Shit he says , they didn’t check the pump. We are going down he says. wtf say I. Down to 500 feet where it’s warmer he says grinning. Down we dived and the ice slowly came off. Character.
About two years later he flew the thing into the ground and killed himself About 30.
