When I sell this place I'd like to sell it to a band of gypsy vagrants with 15 kids. I go out to collect

the rubbish bins just now, I can hear neighbours talking in the courtyard. LIft up the up and over barn door.
3 neighbours chatting outside, one new tennant in rented house opposite (looking at her phone and smoking).
I say bonjour, and they all just look at me. The husband goes back inside. (I have chats with him ... but here, just goes back inside)
His wife she's got cancer of the pancreas, first time I've seen her in a few months. Looking a bit thinner. Other retired women talking to her from outside the front garden gate. They both just stared, along with the new arrival smoking the fag. I mean maybe the sight of me in nothing but running shorts took them by surprise, but good manners don't cost nothing do they.
I just hate it when people don't say hello back. It's the smallest of things but it goes a long way and costs nothing.

In general I've got one decent neighbour ... and he's a bit of a fruitcake. All the rest, you'd think I personally burnt joan of arc. Surrounded by 3 yuppie couples, then the elderly in the barn road. In general in the post covid world village life has become insular suspicious gossipy .. or maybe it's just been amplified.

Maybe sell the house to an albanian gypsy family of scrap metal dealers.
