If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Trump offered US voters a quid pro quo: retain the Republican Congressional majority in the midterms, and get a $5,000 dividend.
Don’t bet the house on it, though.
It’s unlikely the offer will become law and Congress may not embrace a cash payment program with a $1 trillion-plus price tag. Alongside long-shot pledges to eliminate credit card swipe fees and make his tax cuts permanent, it smacks of desperation. Trump’s gamble on Hispanic voters in Texas is also showing signs of backfiring. He’s urging supporters to let him “finish the job.”
