Farage: I won’t cut tax until public spending is under control Leader strives to reassure voters Reform can be trusted to manage economy
Nigel Farage is to rule out tax cuts until public spending has been reduced amid efforts to reassure voters that Reform can be trusted to manage the economy.
The Reform leader will make a speech on Monday in which he will drop any tax-cutting ambitions until his party has got a grip on the country’s finances.
The party went into the last election with a pledge to cut taxes by £90bn, including lifting the income tax starting rate from £12,500 to £20,000 a year and scrapping inheritance tax on estates worth less than £2m.
The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) has previously said that Reform UK’s economic plans set out in its 2024 manifesto did “not add up”, are likely to cost more than stated and that the promised savings are unrealistic.
