When WW2 was on, he was evacuated from his home in Bootle (near the docks, a very popular target for the
Luftwaffe) to Southport.
Later after the war he joined the Merchant Navy as an officer cadet, and whilst he was away at sea, his parents & rest of the family took a one way ship to Australia.
He always used to like going to Southport years later, we used to go to a Chinese restaurant on Lord Street there when I was maybe 10.
Later, in 1953, his ship travelled to Melbourne and he was able to visit his mum, dad, sister & brother...
RHODESIA STAR, the ship on which he travelled to Australia in 1953
