Kids will want to be train drivers again…..
The Aslef union has secured Avanti drivers, who start on a salary of about £70,000, time-and-a-half pay on Sundays, a single-year wage rise of 3.6 per cent — above the most recent inflation rate of 2.9 per cent — and up to £720 simply for turning up to work on a fifth day of the working week. Avanti drivers' refusal to work on rest days forced the rail operator to cut 38 daily services over the summer to cut costs.
