When asked what had drawn him to Bali, the renowned Dutch artist Jan Van der Graff replied “It was the
bucolic quality of the light. When the sun shone so did my spirit and my creativity and my need, no compulsion to capture the incessant beauty of the landscapes here. But when it was cloudy and rainy, then my mood darkened and I resorted to sodomy and rum, both of which the natives were happy to supply”.
Tried to buy one of his paintings when I was there, just a tiny one, about 8”x6”. But it was some $4k, beyond my budget. A beautiful landscape with stunning blues.
