'What’s the read on tomorrow’s Fed decision?
Well, Citadel Securities said yesterday that it expects new Fed Chair Kevin Warsh to surprise the market with a 25 bps rate hike.
They’re saying the markets are underestimating the Fed’s hawkish shift and a move like this would bolster its credibility towards fighting inflation.
While Bank of America expects the Fed to hold rates in July, saying that a July rate hike would be unprecedented at these current odds.
Then putting it at a coin flip is former Kansas City Fed President Esther George, who gives it a 50-50 chance the Fed will either hold rates steady or raise them…
"It wouldn't surprise me if they hiked by 25 basis points at this meeting," George added. "The two-year Treasury yield is higher than the fed funds rate, so that may be enough to move people, but I think September is more likely in this sense."
So while holding is still the odds favorite right now…

A surprise hike is definitely in play.'
