re: Round our way (UK gaf) we have had no water since Saturday. This outage covers large areas of east
London and south west Essex
Thames water have set up a couple of stations where you can queue up for hours and fight with forehead bashing cousin marrying Cunts to get a couple of bottles of H2O. Apparently the queue for one of them was two miles. Didn't bother, went to Booker and bought a boot load instead.
Meanwhile they are still sending out messages telling people to comply with the hosepipe ban. Couldn't make it up department.
Third world.
Going to book a flight out today.
I think Thatcher's sell off of state assets was a turning point. Baby out with the bathwater over reaction to the car unions and miners.
Absolute total fukc up.
Hard to believe no water since saturday and I've not even heard about it or seen it mentioned in the daily Shyte online.
I do think back when they flogged everything off it would have been in better hands had it continued to be run by gov inc. THis was pre woke, pre me2, pre Tony Blair. I bet 7 years not being private plus a couple more up to 1999 as Blair was getting feet under desk, so call it 10 yrs for cash would have seen a lot of upgrades and investment. NOt for nothing the adage, no reservoirs built since 1991. They likely only got that because of course it had already begun pre privitisation
THatcher was the ultimate useful idiot for City of London.
I didn't ask for 'ai generated answer', ... it just gives me that.
UK water was privatized in 1989 under the Conservative government led by Margaret Thatcher. This process involved the sale of ten publicly owned regional water authorities (RWAs) in England and Wales to private companies for a total of £7.6 billion. Scope: The privatization applied to England and Wales Scotland (Scottish Water) and Northern Ireland retained publicly owned systems, while Welsh Water later became a not-for-profit entity. Context: The decision was driven by historic underinvestment in infrastructure and the need to comply with increasingly stringent European Union environmental legislation. Financial Structure: The government wrote off approximately £5 billion in debt owed by the water authorities before the sale and provided a "green dowry" of £1.6 billion in cash injections to make the companies attractive to investors. One thing I did notice making news as I scoured for news on no water in essex, big fire around m25. Probably batteries, or a data centre.
