Go,rioters,…

Maybe the Irish are the only one with enough cojones

Masked rioters have thrown bricks at police during a second night of disorder in north Belfast.

The protesters were marching toward the Chimney Corner Hotel, where asylum seekers are being housed, but were blocked by armoured vehicles and water cannons on Wednesday night.

The disorder comes despite calls for calm from political leaders and police chiefs.

In a joint statement, Stormont ministers warned protesters that “the eyes of the world are watching” Northern Ireland.

The calls for restraint follow widespread rioting on Tuesday night which saw homes torched and a bus and police car set on fire.

Earlier on Wednesday, a “hit list” of migrant homes was drawn up and circulated online after a Sudanese asylum seeker was charged over a knife attack which left a 44-year-old man in critical condition in hospital.

Stephen Ogilvie, originally from Rathcoole, Newtownabbey, lost his left eye in the attack on Monday night and remains in a coma. Mr Ogilvie’s family have condemned the riots that erupted following the attack.

Hadi Alodid, 30, is accused of attempted murder, possessing a knife and threatening to kill an NHS radiographer. He appeared at Laganside magistrates’ court earlier on Wednesday, where he was remanded into custody.

The alleged attacker came to the UK using an asylum loophole. He is believed to have travelled from Sudan to Paris and then to Dublin, before taking a bus to Belfast in February 2023.

He claimed asylum and was given leave to remain in the UK in September that year.
