I went along to the local vernisage last night (opening night for an art exhibition)
THEre was a young black guy there who my neighbour had already spoken to and pronounced 'my blood brother' when he introduced me to him when I arrived.
I spoke to him outside later, where are you from?
Mali
WHat are you CHristian?
No muslim, but I'm not a mad muslim.

His parents are dead and he's living with a family in the town 15 miles away. I met this family as they all headed off. Grandma, "we must get more africans, he's a great boy"
Daughter, about 38 ... not a lot to say
Grandson, ditto.

THE old woman thought inviting every muslim in africa to come and live in france was somehow a good thing or at least an option and a reasonable one at that. ANyone against the idea she'd likely call a bigot etc. And while the guy himself, about 30 I'd say was fine, I couldn't help but wonder how people can imagine inviting every african to come live in france etc is a good thing., or even normal!

If I'd got onto the thorny subject of how climate must be driving africans like this young man out of his homeland (along with Boco Haram, or whatever that group is called) she'd no doubt have said, yes yes, climate change is making life impossible for them, therefore we must all give our spare rooms over to africans who need to flee climate change.

I thought, this women, and her daughter are able to vote.

I also thought, I don't care if he's 'not a mad muslim' for me the religion has been found wanting and any follower of puts the law of the bible above the law of modern life and common decency. They (or it, the religion of Islam, is just not compatible with modern European life. COurse King Charles would say of course it is, and it's fine. We've a lot to learn etc. as he drives off in his british racing green DB6 Aston Martin ..
