Lockdown again….
Schools go into lockdown as flu sweeps nation Teachers cancel singing in assembly to combat virus’s spread
Schools have gone into lockdown to stop a mutant strain of flu spreading through classrooms.
In a move reminiscent of the Covid pandemic, headteachers have ordered “firebreak” school closures and cancelled singing in assemblies.
Three schools shut for several days while a number of others introduced measures to tackle the spread.
A “tidal wave” of flu has left a record number of patients in hospital – an average of 1,717 patients every day in the week before last, the latest figures show.
Experts at the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) have urged people to “consider wearing a mask” if they have symptoms.
One of the worst-hit schools has been St Martin’s in Caerphilly, South Wales, which imposed a temporary lockdown after more than 250 pupils and staff became sick.
