Inappropriate’ pork sausages served on deportation flight to Pakistan Passengers from Muslim-majority country offered traditional Irish breakfast on flight from Dublin
Pork sausages were served to passengers on a deportation flight from Ireland to Pakistan, it has emerged.
The men, from the Muslim-majority country, were offered a traditional Irish breakfast on the flight from Dublin to Islamabad last year, which was described as “inappropriate” in a human rights monitor’s report.
Some of the passengers also complained of being filmed by police and of their luggage going missing.
The 24 men were held in three prisons across Ireland the night before the flight. Two were deemed high-risk because of previous offending.
According to the flight’s human rights monitor, appointed by the Irish government, “the quality of food was a low standard” and the serving of “pork sausages as part of a full Irish breakfast was inappropriate”.
However, their report found that the “overall” operation was conducted humanely with respect for the “rights and dignity of the returnees”.
Nonetheless, aviation company Air Partner, which operates Ireland’s deportation flights, changed its menu for such flights after the report.
